Internship Project - Product Development Intern
Worked as a Research and Development intern, contributing to the product development of SelSym’s synthetic platelet-mimetic technologies. My internship focused on gaining hands-on experience in microbial production of antibody fragments, histological evaluation of preclinical wound-healing tissue samples, and the development and validation of quality-control techniques for synthetic platelets.

Research Assistant
I worked as an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Trino Ascencio-Ibáñez’s lab as part of the Biochemistry Undergraduate Research and Training Program. I executed small and large-scale production of a viral protein (Rep) in E. coli, focusing on achieving optimal yields for use in subsequent binding and inhibition assays with small molecules.
Graduate Coursework
Tissue Engineering Technologies
Developed hands-on experience in tissue engineering by creating complex skin-equivalent tissues, evaluating biomaterials, and assessing angiogenesis in vivo, along with performing tissue processing and structural analysis.
Genome Engineering: CRISPR Technology
Gained hands-on experience with CRISPR-based gene editing techniques, including guide RNA design, site-directed mutagenesis, and Golden Gate and Gibson assembly. Applied these methods to engineer CRISPR-equipped bacteriophage, strengthening skills in genetic engineering.
Biological Processing Science
Gained an understanding of the principles underlying the recovery, purification, and formulation of biologics, with a focus on how biomolecular properties influence downstream processing. Applied analytical and small-scale purification techniques and used data analysis to evaluate process performance.
Microbial Biotechnology
Developed knowledge of industrial microbiology and biotechnology, including recombinant DNA, metabolic engineering, and gene expression optimization. Learned strategies to engineer microbes to produce therapeutics and other valuable products, along with understanding microbial systems and bioprocesses.
Global Regulatory Affairs for Medical Products
Developed a strong understanding of global regulatory and quality systems across the medical product lifecycle, from development to commercialization. Gained experience interpreting FDA regulations, evaluating compliance, and analyzing real-world case studies.
